ON CREATING COVERS
This November, I came up with an idea.
What if I were to ask my Facebook musician friends about their music?
I asked, "What would be your "Signature"
song?
Then I put worth the idea that I might cover songs written by Fb friends.
What happened next surprised me.
I received over 500 songs to listen to, songs that were offered up to serve as covers.
This surprised me. now I really had to take on the challenge.
I spent two weeks just listening to their songs.
And finally, I chose six songs, each very
different from the other, each unique and beautiful.
Reproducing my version took much longer than I had expected. I had to listen and find each song element, from BPM (beats per minute) to instrumentation. I learned parts, but then there came a time when I felt I knew the heart of the song well enough so that I could jump into my own interpretation.
These are what You will find here, along with the original songs in a separate playlist.
I played every instrument on my cover versions, and worked as quickly as I could without sacrificing feel.
I hope you enjoy and I relish your thoughts and feelings on this project.
