Were you born timid?

Blue you were a scaredy cat kid.
Afraid if you sneezed in school you would be removed.
You thought raisins in cereal were dried bugs
You didn't know how to play
You were afraid to go fast
You watched other kids
You buried a tiny golden doll
to see if God would take her
You wet the bed
and your dad slapped you cross the face for it
you thought you would never be able to control it
you had no control over anything
Blue being a child scared you

Blue Likes People

You found out some people
get scared just like you do.
Some people want to tell you things
because they know you would never hurt them
All you want to do is listen
in truth you have nothing to say
but you know you mean well
and somehow you have figured out
you have a good heart

Blue Someone Made You Question

You don'tlike the word
teenager
and teen is worse
in your mind you never had an age
you can sit with the grown ups
you can listen to them
when you were a child
the hippie grownups acted like kids
you sat and watched them
it felt like a show
why do they act so silly
why do they play like three year olds
when you found out about drugs
you were terrified
but you also questioned
and trust became
an issue

Blue can keep a secret

So you fell in love with his blue eyes
They took you to a floating place
where you felt like a blue mermaid
the water was so pure
and when he held you
you were suspended
this was the first time
you felt what it is like
to float
that is the feeling of being in love

Blue has reservations

Blue knows that everything people tell you may not come true
even though the idea of fairy tales sticks
like a belief in God
and sometimes she cannot separate myths from religion
she lives inside her head
with big ideas she is afraid to share
what could people think
is Blue really
that heavy?

Blue puts on her paint

Blue feels protected in her paint
Now she is a brave and loyal warrior
not the killing kind
but the stoic one
who can hold her ground
who can stand like a statue
who can mask her feeling with color
but be oh so present
like the bloom on a plant
very bright
just itself
and no more
temporary
but to be admired

Blue was homeless once

this is a larger story
when heat and cold must be dealt with
when feet hurt when friends might be foes
but you must be gentle with
everyone
you have your tools
your rules
and yes you will have to suffer fools
you may be one
yourself

Blue discovered Songs

She sang to herself
Blue made up songs
Blue taught her songs to a line of dolls
Blue stole her mother's guitar
Blue kept spitting out songs
like seeds
they grew in her
they made her
she played any instrument she could find
at one time this was all that mattered

Blue thought darkly

Blue found the world did not need her songs or her thoughts
but what was she supposed to do?
She could listen and listen
but sometimes she wanted to scream her songs
she smashed her guitar one night
and when she woke up it was still there
in two pieces
the bridge was not a bridge
just an overpass
it was not blue
it was dry
she felt she could throw herself over
but who would know
or care
and why had she come so far
what could possibly be next?
